Fathimath Thaufeeq, who was serving as the Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), has been dismissed from her post.

A senior government official confirmed Fathimath’s dismissal yesterday. The Privatisation & Corporatisation Board (PCB), which oversees such appointments, was not immediately available to comment.

Fathimath was appointed MMPRC’s MD on December 17, 2023. Her dismissal follows another high-profile resignation within the organisation.

This morning, the PCB confirmed via its official X account that Ayesha Nurain Janah had resigned as chairperson of MMPRC. The board stated that Nurain tendered her resignation on Wednesday, which was subsequently accepted, and her position was terminated.

Ayesha Nurain Janah is the daughter of Mohamed Ali Janah, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s principal advisor on trade investment. She was appointed chairperson of MMPRC on December 27, 2023. The reasons behind her abrupt resignation remain undisclosed, and Nurain or other government sources have not commented.

The internal changes within MMPRC come amid reports of clashes between Ayesha Nurain Janah, Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, and Fathimath Thaufeeq. These tensions are speculated to have contributed to the recent leadership upheavals.

The shakeup is not the first disruption within MMPRC this year. Rafil Mohamed, who represented the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) on MMPRC’s board, resigned in April.
