MNDF, Police Search for Three Missing after Supply Vessel Sinks

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coastguard and Maldives Police Service are conducting a joint search operation for three people missing after a supply vessel, Friend 4, sank while travelling from Laamu Atoll to Huvadhu Atoll.

The vessel was carrying gravel and river sand when the incident occurred. Eight people were onboard at the time, with seven rescued so far, while three remain missing.

Those missing include the captain of Friend 4, as well as an MNDF officer and a police officer who were involved in the rescue operation.

The MNDF said search operations are continuing by both sea and air to locate the missing individuals, with military and police teams working together in the ongoing effort.

The latest update from authorities said seven people from the vessel have been rescued, while efforts remain underway to find the three missing persons.
