According to the MNDF, 11 of the 13 incidents occurred in the Greater Malé area.

The week saw several fire incidents in the Greater Malé region, including a blaze at a residential building in the Galolhu district of Malé on 5 July.

A total of 28 people, including children, were taken to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation. The fire also temporarily displaced 109 residents from 25 apartments in the building.

Two more fires occurred almost simultaneously on Thursday. One broke out in an unoccupied building in the Maafannu district of Malé, while the other affected a residential building in the Galolhu district.

The fire in Maafannu led to the evacuation of 10 residents from a neighbouring building as a precaution, while the Galolhu fire temporarily displaced a family of four.
