MNDF to Hold Independence Day Military Parade in Hulhumalé

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is set to hold a military parade in Hulhumalé today as part of celebrations marking the Maldives’ 61st Independence Day.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 16:30 from the Hulhumalé Synthetic Track on Hithigas Magu.

According to the MNDF, the parade will make two stops along the route. The first will be at the junction of Hithigas Magu and Huvandhumaa Hingun near Central Park, while the second will be at the junction of Reethigas Magu and Asurumaa Hingun near the SIFCO flats.

Independence Day is observed annually on 26 July to commemorate the Maldives gaining full independence from Britain in 1965.

This year’s Independence Day celebrations included a national flag-raising ceremony, an official state function and cultural and military performances by the MNDF and school students.
