MRC Concludes Initial Phase of Palestine Relief Fund

The Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) has concluded the initial phase of its Palestine Relief Fund on 12th November 2023, responding to the emergency appeal from the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). 

The fund, which was launched on 14th October 2023, aimed to gather contributions for supporting the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Originally scheduled to run from 14th to 28th October 2023, the relief fund’s duration was extended until 12th November 2023. MRC has now closed the fund for donations and is actively working on realizing the final committed funds from both individuals and organisations. The announcement of the total funds received is anticipated on 19th November 2023.

In adherence to the commitment made earlier, the Maldivian Red Crescent initiated the transfer of funds received as of 28th October 2023. A substantial amount, totalling MVR 2,105,227.14 (USD 136,526), was successfully transferred to the Palestinian Red Crescent on 05th November 2023. 

These funds will be utilised by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society to support ongoing response efforts and critical humanitarian activities, aligning with their emergency appeal.

Following the closure of the fund on 12th November 2023, MRC has commenced internal processes to fulfill the necessary requirements for transferring the remaining funds received up to that date. 

The organisation remains committed to upholding complete transparency and accountability for all donations received. Timely updates on the transfer and utilisation of the funds will be shared with the public, demonstrating MRC’s dedication to assisting those in need in Palestine.
