Muizzu Announces to Plant Five Million Trees Throughout the Country

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared a nationwide initiative to plant five million trees throughout the Maldives. The announcement took place during the Maldives’ National Statement at the high-level segment of the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In his address to world leaders, the Maldives’ President underscored the top priority of enhancing the resilience of the islands. He emphasized the value held by every element of the island nation, from coral reefs to sand grains, fish, and palm trees, stating that their loss affects both the economy and the country as a whole.
The President highlighted the crucial role of sustainable ecosystems in supporting human life and expressed optimism regarding the effective functioning of the Loss and Damage Fund, emphasizing its accessibility to those in need.
Acknowledging his global citizenship, the President recognized the shared responsibility towards the planet. He called for cooperation to ensure that collective actions result in tangible outcomes, fulfilling our obligations for a better planet.
