President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has finalised Ali Hashim’s removal as Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) and requested parliamentary approval to appoint former Finance Minister Ahmed Munawwar as his replacement.
This decision follows the parliament’s motion, passed yesterday, advising the President to remove Hashim under Article 6.3 of the MMA Act. This article stipulates that the President can appoint and remove the MMA Governor in consultation with the parliament.
Shortly after the parliamentary session adjourned, the President’s Office issued a statement confirming Hashim’s removal and Munawwar’s nomination.
Ahmed Munawar previously served as the Minister of Finance and currently holds the position of advisor to the Minister of Finance.
