MVR 189,000 Distributed to Orphaned Children and Caregivers as Financial Assistance in April

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) spent MVR 189,000 in financial assistance for orphaned children and their caregivers in April, supporting 138 children and 102 caregivers registered for monthly assistance.

The NSPA said there were no new additions to the register for the assistance during April.

The agency also distributed MVR 26,040 in food assistance to 706 individuals during the month under the Food Assistance Programme.

Implemented under the Social Protection Act 2014, the Food Assistance Programme is a targeted conditional cash transfer scheme designed to help vulnerable individuals purchase essential food items, specifically rice, flour and sugar.

Eligible beneficiaries receive a monthly allowance of MVR 40 per person, with the assistance capped at MVR 240 per household.
