MWSC, FENAKA Sign Framework Agreement for Transfer of Water and Sewerage Services

Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) and FENAKA Corporation have signed a framework agreement to transfer water and sewerage services in Addu City, Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo and Fuvahmulah City to MWSC.

The agreement establishes a framework for an orderly transition, with both companies stating that the process will focus on maintaining reliable water and sewerage services for residents during the transfer.

The move follows President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s decision to dissolve some state-owned enterprises (SOE), including FENAKA and Road Development Corporation (RDC), as part of a wider restructuring of state-owned enterprises and to consolidate its utility operations under other state-owned companies. 

Under the restructuring plan, FENAKA’s electricity, water and sewerage services are being transferred to STELCO, while water and sewerage operations in the locations covered by the latest agreement will move to MWSC.

STELCO began assessing utility infrastructure in Addu City and Thinadhoo City earlier this month as part of the wider transfer of FENAKA operations. The company said the assessments were intended to determine the condition of infrastructure in the newly assigned areas.
