National Family Mediation Programme Launched to Strengthen Dispute Resolution
According to the ministry of Health, Family Welfare, the initiative was launched in collaboration with UNICEF Maldives, the Judicial Administration of the Maldives, and the Family Court of the Maldives.
The Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare has launched the National Family Mediation Training Programme and unveiled a research report examining the vulnerabilities of children and women in family life.
The event, held yesterday evening at Meerumaa, was attended by Chief Justice of the Maldives Abdul Ghanee Mohamed as chief guest and brought together key stakeholders, including the Minister of Health, Geela Ali, involved in family welfare and justice services.
According to the ministry, the initiative was launched in collaboration with UNICEF Maldives, the Judicial Administration of the Maldives, and the Family Court of the Maldives.

The National Family Mediation Training Programme is scheduled to begin tomorrow. The ministry said the training aims to build capacity in family mediation and support the development of more effective dispute-resolution practices
Speaking at the event, UNICEF Representative to the Maldives, Eddie Addai, underscored the importance of strong family environments for children’s development.

“Families are the foundation of each child’s development. When families are strong, children are more likely to succeed in school, enjoy better health and wellbeing, and reach their full potential,” Addai said.
The ceremony highlighted efforts to strengthen family mediation services and promote constructive approaches to resolving family disputes. The ministry stated that the programme reflects a shared commitment among partner institutions to support families and improve mechanisms for addressing domestic conflicts.
