NDMA Receives 256 Assistance Requests Amid Flooding Crisis

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has announced that a total of 256 requests for assistance have been received, as of this morning,

The authority has provided detailed updates on the relief efforts in response to yesterday’s flooding.

In the capital city of Malé, 183 houses have been reported as flooded. Among these, three houses have been deemed uninhabitable, necessitating the relocation of residents. The NDMA has relocated five families, totalling 23 individuals, due to the severity of the flooding.

NDMA also revealed that it has placed 248 sandbags at 12 houses in Malé to mitigate further flooding.

In addition to Malé, the NDMA has extended its support to other regions. Two families from HA. Baarah, six families from Hoarafushi, and two families from Kelaa have also received assistance.

The current weather, influenced by the South-West monsoon, is expected to remain rough for the next days. The Maldives Meteorological Services (MET) has issued a forecast of continued adverse conditions, including strong storms and rough seas. Travellers are advised to exercise caution during this period.
