The NDMA noted that the assessment places the total cost of damages to the affected homes at over MVR 800,000.

Beyond Male’, the severe weather caused significant damage across the Maldives, with 77 homes, farmlands, and three islands also impacted. The NDMA confirmed that they have received damage assessment forms related to these areas and are currently working to evaluate the total cost of the damages incurred.

Last week, the Maldives experienced widespread heavy rain, with 89.4 millimetres of rainfall recorded last Tuesday alone—a figure weather experts described as unusually high. The heavy downpour led to severe flooding in Male’ City, resulting in damage to homes and disruption of transport.

The NDMA received 256 requests for assistance from residents in Male’ affected by flooding. As a result, 23 individuals from five families, including 13 children, were relocated from their flood-damaged homes.

The northern Maldives also faced torrential rain, with at least 20 islands reporting flood-related damage to homes. The HA. Atoll was particularly hard-hit, with families relocated from flood-affected homes in Hoarafushi, Baarah, Kelaa, and Ihavandhoo.

While the weather conditions have since begun to improve, the Maldives Meteorological Service has warned that strong winds are expected to continue. Seafarers have been advised to remain cautious and heed weather alerts.
