NDMA Warns of Thunderstorms as MET Issues Yellow Alert from Lhaviyani to Vaavu

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has urged the public to take precautionary measures as thunderstorms are expected across parts of the country.
The warning follows a yellow alert issued by the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) for areas stretching from Lhaviyani Atoll to Vaavu Atoll. The alert is in effect from 9:10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

NDMA advised residents to remain indoors and avoid open spaces and elevated areas during the period of adverse weather. The authority also warned against taking shelter under tall objects such as trees, citing increased risks during thunderstorms.
Additionally, the public has been urged to stay out of floodwaters and avoid contact with wet items and metal objects to reduce the risk of injury.
