A mosque built in Addu City’s Hulhudhoo through a waqf donation by Mohamed Solih, recipient of the Order of Distinguished Rule of Muleege, has been officially inaugurated.
Masjid Zulaikha Mohamed was opened yesterday by Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed at a ceremony held in Hulhudhoo. Mohamed Solih and members of his family attended the inauguration event.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Shaheem noted that Solih had dedicated privately owned land as a waqf for the construction of the mosque. He said such acts of generosity serve as an example for younger generations and contribute to strengthening community religious life.
The mosque can accommodate around 200 worshippers and is expected to serve as a central venue for daily prayers and local religious activities in Hulhudhoo.
Separately, the foundation stone has been laid for the Gan Mosque Complex at Gan International Airport, marking the start of another religious infrastructure project supported by Mohamed Solih, recipient of the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzet and Chairman of Damas Company Private Limited.
The foundation stone was laid during a ceremony attended by Minister Shaheem, Mohamed Solih, senior officials from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Addu City Council members, and family members of the donor.
According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the two-storey complex will accommodate around 800 worshippers. It will also include a multi-purpose hall and a library.
The ministry said both projects reflect ongoing efforts to expand religious facilities in Addu City, with support from private donors contributing land and funding through waqf arrangements.
