Islamic Affairs Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said the government will expand Hifz classes in Fuvahmulah City and increase the number of teachers assigned to the programme to meet growing demand.

He also announced that the design concept for a new Islamic Centre planned for Fuvahmulah has been completed and submitted to the Fuvahmulah City Council for its comments.

Shaheem said that once the Islamic Centre is completed, it will become the city’s permanent Quran Centre. The building inaugurated on Saturday will then be converted into a Waqf property, with rental income allocated to support religious development and activities in Fuvahmulah.

According to the minister, the initiative forms part of the government’s broader vision to strengthen Quranic education nationwide by increasing the number of Hafizes, expanding Waqf projects and promoting religious development throughout the Maldives.
