Northern Fishermen Raises Concerns Over Ice Inaccessibility

MV+ News Desk | May 7, 2024

The Bodu Kanneli Masveringe union has voiced concerns regarding the operations of numerous fishing vessels in the northern region of the Maldives due to the unavailability of ice plants.

Of particular concern is the extended absence of service at the Haorafushi Ice Plant, which has been non-operational for several days. Additionally, the Ihavandhoo Ice Plant remains unavailable as of today, compounding the challenges faced by local fishermen.

The lack of functional ice plants poses significant obstacles to the fishing industry, impacting the preservation of catch and overall productivity.
