The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has introduced a dedicated WhatsApp service to improve access to therapeutic services for Maldivians living abroad, following difficulties faced by overseas users in contacting the agency’s hotline.

NSPA provides therapeutic services, including speech therapy and occupational therapy, to Maldivians both within the country and overseas. The agency said the new communication channel was introduced to make it easier for users abroad to obtain information and access support.

Speaking to PSM News, NSPA Chief Executive Officer Aminath Shirna said 58 Maldivians living overseas have already registered with the agency’s therapeutic services.

She said many users abroad had experienced difficulties reaching the agency’s hotline because of time zone differences and connectivity issues. The new WhatsApp service is intended to provide the same information and assistance directly through mobile messaging, allowing users to communicate more conveniently.

The WhatsApp service will be available on 7291402 from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm every day, except on public holidays.

In addition to services provided through the Aasandha universal health insurance scheme, NSPA administers a range of social assistance programmes. These include support for health-related treatments, assistance for older people, single mothers caring for children, and individuals living in poverty.
