Over 7,500 students across the Maldives have embarked on their O’Level Examinations.

A total of 7,501 students are participating in this year’s examinations, spread across 356 examination centres nationwide. The examinations encompass both the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Examinations and the local Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations for Dhivehi, Islam, and Arabic Language.

The SSC Examinations commenced this week, with a notable turnout of over 7,133 students, while the IGCSE exams are scheduled to commence on 2nd May. The examination period is slated to conclude on 13th June.

Vice-President Hussain Mohamed Latheef conveyed his well-wishes to all students undertaking the examinations, extending encouragement and invoking blessings for their diligent efforts in a post on X today.

This year, there has been a marked increase of 12 percent in the total number of participating students compared to the previous year. This surge follows the government’s directive mandating all students to undertake examinations in the subjects of Islam, Dhivehi, English, and Mathematics. Notably, the government has also committed to covering the examination fees for these four mandatory subjects, irrespective of students’ performance in mock examinations.

Previously, students failing the mock examinations preceding the O’Levels were required to bear the examination fees themselves to participate in the O’Level examinations.
