The Parliament Foreign Relations Committee has approved the appointment of Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed as the Maldives’ Ambassador to the European Union (EU) and Belgium.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu submitted Dhiyana’s nomination to the Parliament during a sitting held on 7 July, after which the proposal was referred to the Foreign Relations Committee for review.
Following its assessment, the committee concluded that Dhiyana was qualified and capable of serving in the position. Members present unanimously approved the appointment.
Dhiyana previously served as Attorney General during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed and later as Gender Minister during the administration of former President Dr Mohamed Waheed.
Before being nominated for the ambassadorial post, Dhiyana was appointed as an Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in April.
The Foreign Relations Committee also approved the appointment of Maldives Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmed Sareer as the country’s Non-Resident Ambassador to Bahrain. The approval was passed unanimously by members who participated in the committee meeting.
