The Parliament is set to convene tonight for the purpose of electing a new Deputy Speaker, at 20:30.
The decision to hold this session was prompted by the recent resignation of former Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla, following a no-confidence motion against her.
The motion against Eva Abdulla was brought up during today’s session. However, the situation took an unexpected turn as Eva tendered her resignation while the matter was still under consideration.
Some members advocated for the continuation of the session despite the resignation, asserting that the impeachment process should proceed. Nevertheless, the Speaker, in charge of presiding over the session, opted to adjourn it, citing the inability to proceed in light of Eva’s resignation.
The upcoming session, scheduled for tonight, will be dedicated to the election of a new Deputy Speaker to fill the vacated position.
