MV+ News Desk | June 10, 2024

The bill proposing an amendment to ban Israeli passports and prevent Israeli citizens from entering the country has been referred to the Security Services Committee, also known as the 241 Committee, for further consideration.

The decision to refer the bill, introduced by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MP Meekail Ahmed, was made by Progressive National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group Leader and Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falah during today’s parliamentary session.

In his remarks during the debate, Falah underscored the significance of the bill. He pointed out that despite the intensification of the Palestinian genocide since October 2023, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih did not impose a ban on Israeli passports via presidential decree.

Falah suggested that the bill could have been quickly passed by the MDP-majority parliament at that time.

Upon referring the bill to the 241 Committee, Falah expressed his support for the committee’s sincere efforts in addressing the issue.
