The Parliament session has adjourned today due to insufficient attendance, with only 10 members present despite repeated requests for attendance.

Scheduled to commence at 9:00 am, the session faced persistent delays until 11:05 am due to insufficient attendance, a constitutional prerequisite for proceedings. Although efforts were made to convene the meeting at 9:30 am and 10:00 am, the legal threshold remained unmet.

Speaker Mohamed Aslam, addressing the assembly, iterated his vigilance in monitoring the quorum status throughout the morning.

Despite indications of some members lingering in the parliamentary courtyard, they failed to enter the House when the quorum bell sounded, prompting speculation on their absence.

As per constitutional provisions, a minimum of 22 members is mandated for the proceedings of the 19th Parliament. Falling short of this requirement, the session could not proceed, marking a significant disruption to legislative activities.

The conclusion of today’s session underscores the challenges in ensuring legislative quorum adherence and underscores the importance of member accountability in parliamentary proceedings.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the commencement of the 20th Parliament on the 28th of this month, marking a transition to a new legislative term.
