Traditionally, the academic year began in January each year. However, due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and following requests from various stakeholders in the tourism sector, the start of the academic year was rescheduled to August.
This adjustment faced criticism during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Rozaina has raised concerns about the impact of altering the academic calendar, expressing fears from parents that such changes could adversely affect their children’s studies.
In response to these concerns, the Ministry of Education is now expected to provide clarity on its perspective regarding students’ studies during the period between the conclusion of the current academic year in June next year and the proposed start date for the new academic term.
