The Immigration agency has consistently sought to facilitate a smoother experience for individuals seeking passport services. As part of this effort, four significant modifications have been implemented, allowing for passport applications until 9:00 pm.
Until now, passports were issued between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm. However, beginning today, the passport section’s operating hours will be extended until 9:00 pm. It is important to note that passport handover numbers will be issued from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm and from 12:45 pm to 5:00 pm.
In 2019, passport applications became accessible through email, replacing the need for in-person submissions at immigration offices. Subsequently, on July 22, 2020, the “Imuga” portal was launched, providing a digital platform for the passport service.
According to immigration officials, more than 125,600 passports have been issued online since the implementation of these digital services.
Recent changes include:
- Elimination of form requirements: Applicants can now submit passport applications without the need to fill out, scan, and upload a physical form, addressing concerns from online applicants.
- Removal of ID card and previous passport copy requirement: Passport renewal applicants are no longer required to upload a copy of their previous passport or provide an ID card.
- Simplified passport signing process: The Immigration agency accepts digital or pencil signatures on white paper for passport applications, but physical signing is still necessary when handing over the passport.
- Login via EFAAS: Applicants can now access the Imuga portal using their EFAS account, eliminating the need for a separate registration process and streamlining the service.
These changes seek to improve the efficiency and accessibility of the passport application process, providing a more user-friendly experience for applicants. With extended service hours and simplified requirements, individuals can now navigate the process with greater ease and convenience.
