Person Arrested for Smuggling Drugs into Lh. Hinnavaru

A 39-year-old man was arrested yesterday in an operation targeting the smuggling of drugs into Lh. Hinnavaru, according to the Maldives Police Service.

The operation was launched following intelligence received by counter-narcotics intelligence regarding the alleged smuggling of illicit drugs into the island. It was conducted jointly by officers from Hinnavaru Police and Counter Narcotics Intelligence.

The Maldives Police Service stated that the suspect was identified as Mohamed Andhaaz Ahmed, 39, of Divaintest, Lh. Hinnavaru. He was arrested on 3 June near the Hinnavaru ATM harbour area.

The police stated that the officers searched the suspect at the time of his arrest and discovered two bags containing substances suspected to be illicit drugs. The provisional weight of the seized substances was recorded at 189.5 grammes.

The police stated that Mohamed Andhaaz Ahmed was presented before the court for a remand hearing in connection with the case. The court ordered him to be detained for five days pending further investigation.

According to the police, the investigation into the case remains ongoing.
