This initiative falls under the purview of Article 15 of the Prosecutor General Act, which delineates the responsibilities and powers of the prosecutor general.

The guidelines are designed to address the complexities associated with taking legal action against scam calls. The PGO emphasised the necessity of a uniform approach in investigating and prosecuting such cases, and the guidelines have been dispatched to relevant investigative agencies for implementation.

In a statement, the PGO expressed confidence that the adoption of these guidelines would enhance the efficiency of investigations and contribute to a higher success rate in prosecuting scam call cases.

Additionally, the PGO acknowledged the challenges faced by service providers in obtaining crucial information for investigations and assured ongoing efforts to address these issues.

The successful resolution of cases related to scam calls, according to the PGO, hinges on the collaboration of mobile phone service providers, banks, and other financial transaction entities in providing essential information.
