During today’s parliamentary session, Speaker Mohamed Aslam announced the People’s National Congress (PNC) as the party officially representing the government.
This decision stems from the affiliation of President Mohamed Muizzu with the PNC.
Speaker Aslam disclosed that the PNC has designated Felidhoo MP Fazul Rasheed as the leader of its parliamentary group.
Presently, the PNC holds two seats in parliament, occupied by Fazul and Thulusdhoo MP Ibrahim Naseem. Additionally, the PPM, in conjunction with the PNC, has two members:
- Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem
- Mahibadhoo MP Ahmed Thorig
A noteworthy development occurred on Friday when Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef and Maavah MP Mohamed Saeed resigned from their parliamentary seats to assume positions in the new government’s cabinet.
The cabinet further expanded with resignations from the following members:
- Villimale MP Ahmed Usham (MNP) – Appointed as Attorney General
- Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam (PPM) – Appointed as Fisheries Minister
- Guraidhoo MP Ghassan Maumoon (PPM) – Appointed as Defence Minister
These changes reflect a restructuring within the parliamentary representation, aligning with the PNC’s role as the government’s representative in the legislative body.
