The People’s National Congress (PNC) has secured 69 unopposed seats across Local Councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) elections 2026, while the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) won six, the Elections Commission has announced.

Following the close of the nomination period, officials confirmed that candidates in several constituencies won their seats unopposed, either because the number of applicants matched the number of available seats or because contenders withdrew before the official ballot draw.

Breaking down the results, PNC won 28 Local Council seats and 41 WDC seats, while MDP secured one Local Council seat and five WDC seats unopposed. In total, PNC holds 69 guaranteed positions, dwarfing the MDP’s six uncontested victories. Meanwhile, Adhaalath Party won two unopposed seats, across both WDC and local council seats.

Previously reported figures show that MDP has 48 candidates contesting in city constituencies and 100 vying for seats in island constituencies. Meanwhile, 298 PNC members competed for party tickets across 42 constituencies, with the primary elections set to determine candidates for 84 council seats.
