Police Investigate Alleged Sexual Abuse of Four-Year-Old Girl in Central Maldives
Maldives police have launched an investigation into the reported sexual abuse of a four-year-old girl in the central region of the archipelago.
The case was reported to the North Central Police Division, which oversees islands in Kaafu Atoll, Alif Alif Atoll, Alif Dhaalu Atoll, and Vaavu Atoll, on 21 November.
Authorities have identified the suspect as a male under the age of 18. While the police have not disclosed whether the suspect has been taken into custody, they confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
The Maldives Police Service considers crimes against children as serious offences. To safeguard the victim’s identity, the exact location of the incident has not been disclosed.
The public is urged to report any information regarding crimes against children. Tips can be shared with the Family and Child Protection Department via 3000600 or through the Ministry of Gender, Family, and Social Services’ helpline at 1412.
