Police Officer Passes Away in Malé After Medical Emergency During Training

A Maldives Police Service officer who was flown to Malé City for medical treatment after his condition deteriorated passed away yesterday.
Constable Hussain Gais, 34, had been undergoing training at the Police Training Centre in Dh. Vaanee when his condition became critical. He was first found unresponsive at the centre after he failed to respond to a wake-up call at 4:21am on Sunday.
Following the discovery, Gais was taken to the centre’s medical room at around 4:27am and was subsequently transferred to Dhaalu Atoll Hospital at 4:48am under the guidance of a doctor.
Later the same day, Gais was airlifted to Malé City by air ambulance at around 1:22pm after his condition was reported as critical. He was admitted to hospital and received treatment in the intensive care unit.
The Maldives Police Service has not disclosed the cause of Constable Gais’s sudden health deterioration and subsequent death. An official statement regarding the circumstances has yet to be released.
