Police Seize Weapons Intended for Gang Fights in Addu

In response to escalating gang violence in Addu City, the police have conducted an operation resulting in the confiscation of items believed to be prepared for use as weapons in fights from the Hithadhoo district.
Launched on Sunday, the collaborative operation involved officers from Addu City’s police stations, South Police Serious Crime Cell, and Specialist Operations.
The seized items, suspected to be intended for use in altercations, include sharp-edged weapons and metal rods, among other things.
As part of the ongoing operation, a total of 10 suspects have been apprehended, comprising one 18-year-old, two 19-year-olds, three 20-year-olds, a 21-year-old, and three 23-year-olds.
These arrests are connected to two separate gang fights, with one occurring on Friday night and the other on Sunday evening.
During the Friday altercation, a 30-year-old man sustained serious injuries, while a 20-year-old was similarly injured in the Sunday incident. Both victims have been transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in the capital, Male’, for further treatment.
The 10 arrested suspects, linked to the aforementioned fights, are currently remanded in custody pending the outcome of their trials by Hithadhoo Magistrate Court.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing and are being conducted by Addu City’s police stations and the South Police Serious Crime Cell.
