President and First Lady Commemorate Success at Special Olympics World Games 2023

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed met with Maldivian athletes, their parents, and delegation members today to congratulate them on the team’s success at the Special Olympics World Games 2023. The Maldivian team won two gold and one bronze medal at the games held in Berlin, Germany, from June 17-25, 2023.

At a meeting at the President’s Office, President Solih acknowledged the achievement of the Maldivian athletes in the major international competition. He expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to it, particularly Special Olympics Maldives and the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment.
Highlighting the administration’s policy on promoting inclusivity, the President noted that the administration created Special Olympics Maldives to provide opportunities for people with special needs to participate in sports. He also assured the administration’s continued support in providing facilities for people with disabilities in sports.
The Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 was the world’s largest inclusive sports event, featuring over 6,500 athletes from across the globe competing in 26 sports.
