President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated the completion of two developmental projects on Rakeedhoo Island as part of his ongoing visit to Vaavu Atoll. These projects included the development of a new harbour and coastal protection measures aimed at improving the lives of the island’s residents.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Ltd. (MTCC) undertook the harbour project. As part of the project, the harbour basin was deepened by 5,554 cubic metres, a 164-metre quay wall was developed, and 492 square metres of pavement were constructed. The harbour entrance was also deepened, lights were installed along the harbour, and a boat slipway was constructed.
The coastal protection project, which included the development of a 45-metre groyne and a 200-metre sea wall, addressed many of the residents’ concerns. Additionally, a 40-metre by 20-metre area was developed as a swimming area. The new harbour also addresses challenges residents face due to the need for a proper harbour.

This includes improving the living standards of citizens and enabling them to live dignified lives. The administration places great importance on ensuring that all citizens benefit from its developmental projects, regardless of where they live.
