President Inaugurates New Powerhouse in K. Dhiffushi

President Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated a new powerhouse developed by the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) on K. Dhiffushi.
The inauguration was held during the President’s visit to Kaafu Atoll and attended by STELCO’s Managing Director, Ahmed Shamhaad Rasheed, along with senior officials from the company.
According to STELCO, the project included the construction of a powerhouse, a customer service building, and a jetty. The work began on 26 June 2024 and was completed on 30 April 2025, under a contract awarded to Sunwill Pvt Ltd at a value of MVR 12.5 million.
The newly inaugurated powerhouse has a current power generation capacity of 2.2 megawatts and can be expanded up to 7 megawatts. It also features an engine room, control room, office space, and an accommodation block for staff.
STELCO stated that the upgraded facility will ensure a more reliable and efficient power supply for Dhiffushi residents while supporting the island’s future development projects.
