President Muizzu Holds Farewell Meeting With Outgoing SAARC Secretary-General

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has held a farewell meeting with South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Secretary-General Md Golam Sarwar, who is concluding his tenure.

Sarwar paid a farewell call on President Muizzu at the President’s Office today.

During the meeting, Muizzu thanked Sarwar for his service and support during his tenure and reaffirmed the Maldivian government’s commitment to strengthening SAARC.

The President also highlighted the importance of SAARC’s role in regional and international affairs and commended Sarwar for his leadership of the organisation.

Sarwar expressed appreciation for the Maldives’ cooperation and highlighted the country’s significance as a founding member of SAARC. He also thanked President Muizzu for his efforts to revitalise the regional organisation.

The two sides discussed key SAARC initiatives and ways to strengthen regional integration and collective progress among member states.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Muizzu wished Sarwar success in his future endeavours and expressed his commitment to continued cooperation among SAARC member states.

The Maldives is a founding member of SAARC, which was established through the signing of the SAARC Charter in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 8 December 1985.
