President Muizzu Inaugurates Boduthakurufaanu Handhaanee Dhoroashi in Utheemu

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated the Boduthakurufaanu Handhaanee Dhoroashi in Haa Alifu Atoll, Utheemu, a structure developed as part of a national initiative to preserve the legacy of Ghaazee Bandaarain.

The President unveiled the Dhoroashi during his visit to Utheemu on today, where he and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed took part in activities to commemorate National Day.

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, Baarashu Constituency MP Ibrahim Shujaau and members of the Cabinet attended the ceremony.

The event also brought together long-serving state officials, foreign diplomats and members of the public.

The Boduthakurufaanu Handhaanee Dhoroashi symbolises the historic struggle led by Boduthakurufaanu. It features six principal pillars modelled on columns traditionally found in ancient Maldivian mosques.

Each pillar represents one of six heroes who fought for the freedom and sovereignty of the Maldivian people.

The Dhoroashi forms part of a dedicated national initiative in Haa Alif Atoll to preserve the legacy and memory of Ghaazee Bandaarain, also known as Utheemu Mohamed Thakurufaanu.

The initiative aims to strengthen Maldivian national identity and culture while safeguarding the country’s heritage for future generations. The government also plans to integrate the heritage initiative with the tourism sector.

The project to develop the Boduthakurufaanu Handhaanee Dhoroashi was launched during President Muizzu’s previous visit to Haa Alif Atoll.
