President Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency in Meeting with SIDs Audit Leaders

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountability, transparency and good governance during a meeting with visiting Heads of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and international delegates.

The meeting followed the closing session of the SIDS-SAIs Symposium 2026 and the opening of the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) Global Summit 2026 in Alifu Alifu Atoll, Ukulhas, yesterday.

According to the President’s Office, during the meeting, President Muizzu said accountability, transparency and good governance remain the cornerstone pledges of his administration. He highlighted ongoing legislative and institutional reforms aimed at eliminating illegal practices and establishing a corruption-free governance framework, adding that these efforts continue to receive strong public support.

The President also outlined the Maldives 2.0 vision, stating that the government aims to fully digitalise all public services within the next two years. He said the Maldives is introducing legal frameworks to improve institutional efficiency while drawing on international best practices, including lessons from Estonia’s digital governance model.

The visiting delegates commended the Maldives for hosting the summit and praised the country’s leadership in promoting the interests of small island developing states on international platforms.

They also commended Auditor General Hussain Niyazy and the Maldivian government, noting that the participation of cabinet ministers and senior government officials demonstrated political commitment to strengthening public oversight.

President Muizzu, in turn, congratulated Niyazy and the Auditor General’s Office for successfully organising the summit in Ukulhas and showcasing Maldivian culture and island hospitality to international delegates.

The meeting was attended by Auditor General Hussain Niyazy, INTOSAI Chair representative Manal Mohamed Khairy, IDI Director General Einar Gørrissen, UNDESA representative Aránzazu Guillán Montero and visiting heads of supreme audit institutions from SIDS.
