President Solih Appoints Special Committee to Ensure Seamless Gov’t Transition

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has established a special committee to oversee the government transition process after his defeat in the Maldives’ presidential election to Dr Mohamed Muizzu of the PPM-PNC in the second round of voting held on 30 September. Yesterday, President Solih met with President-Elect Muizzu to acknowledge his victory.
During their meeting at the President’s Office this afternoon, President Solih expressed his acceptance of the people’s decision and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to facilitating a smooth and peaceful government transition to the incoming administration, as outlined in the Presidential Transition Act.
President Solih announced that the special committee would be led by Hussain Amir, Secretary of Corporate Services at the President’s Office, with Chief of Staff Ali Zahir overseeing the transition process on behalf of the President’s Office. The President-Elect was also assured of receiving support from a team of technical professionals from the President’s Office.
In response, President-Elect Dr. Muizzu thanked President Solih for acknowledging the election results and personally congratulating him. He commended the organised electoral process and expressed his dedication, along with his team, to ensuring a peaceful and well-organised transfer of power.
The meeting was attended by Uz Ali Zahir, Chief of Staff of the President’s Office, Hussain Amir, Secretary of Corporate Services at the President’s Office, and Abdul Raheem Abdulla, President of the People’s National Congress (PNC).
