The proposed members of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s cabinet have been formally presented to Parliament today, with the list of appointees submitted for approval in accordance with the stipulations outlined in Article 129 of the Constitution, as stated by the President’s Office.
This follows the Cabinet of Ministers taking their oath of office on the day of the Presidential Inauguration.
Of note, the submitted list includes individuals who have transitioned from their roles as parliamentarians to now serving in Muizzu’s cabinet. This shift has reduced the ruling party coalition’s representation in the parliament to just five MPs.
Addressing the media in the office’s inaugural press conference, the President’s Office Public Policy Undersecretary expressed confidence in garnering the cooperation of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which currently holds the majority in parliament.
During the presidential inauguration, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Aslam affirmed a commitment to extending cooperation to the new administration.
