The government has said that information relating to state ministers and deputy ministers was removed from the President’s Office website due to an ongoing restructuring process, adding that the details will be republished once the exercise is completed.

Speaking to MV+, Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef said the changes taking place across government institutions are currently “very fluid”, with political appointees being reassigned, removed and reappointed at a pace that makes real-time updates difficult.

He said the decision to remove the information was linked to the restructuring process and not a change in government policy regarding public access to information on political appointments.

Shareef said the lists of state ministers and deputy ministers would be made available on the President’s Office website again once the restructuring work is completed. Although he did not provide a specific timeline, he said the information would be republished “soon”.

He also stated that the government remains committed to transparency and that the total number of political appointees would be publicly known once the process is finalised.

In addition, Shareef confirmed to MV+ that Zeenaz Adnan has been appointed as a State Minister at the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare. He said she has held the position for some time and that the appointment forms part of the ongoing restructuring.

Information on state ministers and deputy ministers appointed under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration has been absent from the President’s Office website for approximately two months.

Since the launch of the President’s Office website, profiles and photographs of individuals appointed to political positions have generally been publicly accessible under successive administrations. While such information was available during the early period of the current administration, updates became less frequent as ministries underwent changes in mandates and personnel, with officials being transferred between institutions and new appointments made.
