Repeat Mosque Offender Arrested for Defecating Inside Malé Mosque

A man previously arrested for damaging a mosque has been arrested again after defecating inside a mosque in Malé.

A police media official stated that Naushad Moosa, 32, of G. Male Hiyaa, was arrested for entering Masjid al-Furqan around 4:41 AM last Thursday. He is accused of desecrating the mosque by violating public social standards and defecating inside the premises.

The Criminal Court today ordered him to be remanded in custody for 15 days after he was presented to the court to decide on his detention.

Naushad was previously arrested as well for throwing around copies of the Quran, damaging a mosque and breaking electrical boards. Following that, he was also arrested in a separate case for committing public indecency in front of a group of women inside a mosque.

However, it is unclear whether Naushad was formally charged in any of those previous cases.
