A new security measure implemented at the President’s Office has restricted phone access for visitors, allowing only Cabinet Ministers to carry phones onto the premises.

Communication Minister Ibrahim Khaleel announced today that the measure, which has been in effect for over two months, aims to enhance security protocols within the office.

The change came to light during a media briefing by Spokesperson Heena Waleed this morning, where attending journalists were asked to leave their phones at the entrance. The media’s concerns prompted the President’s Office to temporarily lift the restriction for today’s briefing, citing a lack of prior notification to the media regarding the new rule.

However, Khaleel emphasised that the restriction applies not only to the media but to all visitors to the President’s Office, with the exception of Cabinet Ministers and office employees.

Furthermore, it has been clarified that other government officials, including Managing Directors of State-Owned Enterprises, are also prohibited from bringing phones into the President’s Office.

Moving forward, visitors to the President’s Office will be required to adhere to the new protocol, which restricts phone access to Cabinet Ministers and office staff exclusively.
