The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued a white alert for rough seas and thunderstorms with heavy rain from Baa Atoll to Thaa Atoll today.

The alert is in effect from 11:00 hrs until 14:00 hrs. The Met Office has also forecast scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Maldives, with heavy showers expected in central and southern atolls. Winds are predicted to reach eight to 18 miles per hour in the southern atolls from the north and northeast, and 13 to 23 miles per hour elsewhere from the northeast and east, with gusts of up to 40 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are expected to be rough in the central and northern atolls, while they will remain moderate in the southern atolls but may become rough during showers. Wave heights are forecast to reach three to six feet in the southern atolls and four to seven feet elsewhere.

The Met Office has warned that northern and central atolls will experience adverse weather conditions until Monday, while southern atolls are expected to face rough weather even beyond that period.
