Rough Weather To Continue As White Alert Issued For Nothern Atolls

Rough weather is expected to continue across the Maldives today, with the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) issuing a white alert from Baa Atoll to Haa Alif Atoll amid forecasts of strong winds, rain and moderately rough seas.
The white alert is in effect from 11:45am to 6pm today.

MET said rain and scattered thunderstorms are expected in various parts of the country, although heavy rainfall is not anticipated. Weather conditions are expected to improve from this afternoon.
Strong winds are forecast across the country, blowing from the southwest and west at speeds of 13 to 23 mph, with gusts of up to 40 mph possible during squalls.
According to MET data, F. Nilandhoo recorded the highest wind gusts over the past 24 hours, followed by HDh. Kulhudhuffushi.
The weather service said seas are expected to remain moderately rough across all regions over the next 24 hours, with wave heights ranging from four to seven feet.
MET has urged seafarers to exercise caution and advised travellers to remain updated on weather alerts before making sea journeys.
Authorities have also urged those travelling by sea to inform the relevant parties before departing, particularly as multiple maritime incidents have been reported during the past 24 hours.
