Sahar Waheed Appointed as Deputy CEO and COO at BML

The Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced the appointment of Sahar Waheed as its new Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operations Officer (COO). Sahar, who has over 18 years of experience in banking, will oversee the Bank’s operations, legal and corporate affairs, human resources, administration, properties, and procurement functions.

Sahar has previously held senior positions at BML, including Head of Strategic Planning and Change Management and, most recently, People and Change Director. She holds a BSc in Economics and Economic History from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an LLM in Commercial Law, and a Chartered Banker qualification from the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers.

The Bank has also restructured its executive management team to align with its strategic goals. New appointments include:

  • Adly Ahmed Didi as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), responsible for technology strategy and digital transformation.
  • Moosa Nimal as Chief Business Officer (CBO), overseeing corporate, business, and personal banking.
  • Rashfa Jaufar as Chief Credit Officer (CCO), leading credit risk management and recoveries.
  • Aishath Zamra Zahir as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), managing marketing, customer services, and project management.
  • Hassan Kalaam as Chief Islamic Banking Officer (CIBO), overseeing BML Islamic’s banking services.

BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef commented on the appointments, saying, “Our commitment to fostering local talent is evident in these key leadership appointments. Each individual brings unparalleled expertise in their respective areas, and their proven capabilities and understanding of the Maldives banking landscape will drive our vision of supporting individuals, businesses, and communities across the country.”
