Several areas of Malé City were flooded after strong waves washed seawater onto parts of the capital yesterday, prompting the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to carry out drainage operations.
The MNDF said in a post on X that its personnel worked to remove the accumulated seawater, with operations focused on the Carnival area.
Photos and videos shared on social media showed flooding in sections of the newly paved road near the waterfront.
The Maldives Meteorological Service had forecast rain in various parts of the country. The weather authority also predicted wet conditions throughout the ongoing school holidays and advised the public to exercise caution while travelling.
Authorities continued efforts to clear the floodwater as unsettled weather affected parts of the country.
