Sixteen MDP MPs Secure Party Tickets Unopposed in Parliamentary Primary

Sixteen Members of Parliament (MPs) affiliated with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have been officially confirmed as candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections without undergoing a primary process.

The decision to award these MPs party tickets without a primary was reached as no other contenders emerged during the party’s designated primary period. MDP had opened the nomination slots for parliamentary primaries from December 16 to 25.

The list of MPs who secured their tickets without facing primary opposition includes:

  • Horafushi MP Ahmed Salim
  • Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad
  • Makunudhoo MP Mohamed Raai
  • Milandhoo MP Ali Riza
  • Funadhoo MP Mohamed Shahid
  • Dhuvaafaru MP Ismail Ahmed
  • Hinnavaru MP Jeehan Mahmud
  • Dhiggaru MP Ikram Hassan
  • Dhandhoo MP Yaugoob Abdulla
  • Gemanafushi MP Ahmed Saeed
  • Fuvahmulah Central MP Hussain Mohamed Didi
  • Hithadhoo North MP Mohamed Aslam

The MDP’s announcement, made on Monday, revealed a total of 36 candidates who have been granted party tickets without undergoing a primary process.

This development has raised discussions within political circles, highlighting the absence of competition within the party for these specific parliamentary slots.
