President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has made the decision to initiate the reclamation of land in the ADh. Maafaru lagoon, located near ADh. Mahibadhoo, to tackle the persistent housing issue in Mahibadhoo.
As one of the most densely populated islands in the Atoll, Mahibadhoo stands out for its infrastructural advancements. With a population exceeding 2000 residents and covering an area of 22.3 hectares, the island has faced challenges due to its fully utilised land.
The lack of available land for residential, industrial, and other economic activities has become a pressing concern for the inhabitants and the local council.
