SpaceX’s Starlink has initiated satellite internet services in the Maldives, marking the country as one of the first in South Asia to access Starlink’s services.

Per information on the Starlink website, customers in the Maldives can choose from four service plans. The household package, offering speeds of up to 200 Mbps, is priced at approximately MVR 1,000 monthly. Customers need to connect to the network and install a satellite dish kit, priced at MVR 10,000, to avail of the service.

In addition to residential services, Starlink offers packages for businesses, vehicles, and individuals who travel frequently.

Technology Minister Aminath Shauna stated on social media platform X that Starlink would provide unique solutions for the island nation.

This development makes Starlink the fourth company in the Maldives licensed to provide internet services. Starlink, a SpaceX service owned by Elon Musk, joins other ventures like Tesla and Twitter.

Starlink’s internet service utilises a small antenna, requiring a monthly subscription fee. This ensures high-speed internet access across the Maldives, including maritime areas.

Starlink’s internet service is operational in over 60 countries globally.
