Special Police Operation Underway at VIA
The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that a special operation is currently being conducted at Velana International Airport (VIA), with the dog squad actively involved in the effort.
In collaboration with the Maldives Customs Service and the Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL), the police are intensifying efforts to prevent the smuggling of drugs into the country.

This follows recent arrests, including two Malaysian nationals detained at VIA for attempting to smuggle drugs into the UK via the Maldives, and an elderly local apprehended for smuggling drugs into the country.
